Brittany Lussier led the Dukes to a second place finish at the VMI Invitational

LEXINGTON,Va. Oct. 14, 2006 ? Freshman Brittany Lussier (Stafford, Va./North Stafford) finished ninth overall to lead the James Madison women's cross country "B" team to a second place finish at the Virginia Military Institute Invitational Saturday evening.
Lussier completed the 5,000-meter course in a time of 20 minutes, 3.81 seconds.
Virginia Tech's Nicole Pederson won the race in a time of 19:06.25.
Tech scored 25 points to win the meet. JMU finished with 59 points, followed by Virginia Intermont (68), Virginia Military (102) and Longwood (107).
The Dukes all finished in the top-30 in the field of 42.
Other JMU runners included sophomore Caitlin O'Malley (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee), 11th in 20:06; freshman Erin Bender, (Winchester, Va./John Handley), 12th in 20:08; junior Kelly Payne (Mechanicsville, Va./Atlee), 13th in 20:092; freshman Holly Fredericksen (Yorktown, Va./Tabb), 14th in 20:13; senior Elaina Orphanides (Potomac Falls, Va./Potomac Falls), 16th in 20:32; and freshman Tina Forgach (Long Branch, N.J./Red Bank Catholic), 20th in 20:57.
Among the remaining Dukes' competitors were freshman Jessica Propst (Harrisonburg, Va./Harrisonburg), 22nd in 21:03; freshman Stephanie Shenk (Winchester, Va./James Wood), 23rd in 21:07; sophomore Becca Hoogland (Springfield, Va./Lake Braddock), 25th in 21:18; freshman Katherine Otstot (Richmond, Va./Mills E. Godwin), 26th in 21:23; and freshman Ashley Leberfinger (Danville, Pa./Danville Area), 28th in 21:29.
