BETHLEHEM, Pa., Sept. 29, 2006 -- Senior Dena Spickard (Marion, Va./Marion) finished 10th and the James Madison women's cross country team tied for 11th in a 35-team field at the Paul Short Invitational Meet, hosted by Lehigh Friday afternoon.
Spickard was timed in 21 minutes, 8 seconds on the 6,000-meter course.
Some 237 runners completed the race, which was won by Villanova junior Frances Koons, who was clocked in 20:16.
Nationally 11th-ranked Princeton edged 10th-ranked Wisconsin by a point for the team title. The Tigers finished with 61 points, and Wisconsin had 62 points. Tennessee, ranked 14th, was third with 115.
Other JMU runners included sophomore Christy Ward (Midlothian, Va./James River), 57th in 22:13; junior Michelle Beardmore (Front Royal, Va./Warren County), 70th in 22:25; freshman Emily Hellmuth (Arlington, Va.), 125th in 23:19; junior Gina Casella (Charlottesville, Va./Western Albemarle), 151st in 23:36; senior Jennifer Chapman (Centreville, Va./Wesfield), 164th in 23:48; and freshman Erin Bender, (Winchester, Va./Handley), 173rd in 23:57.
