GREENSBORO, N.C., October 16, 2007 -- For the second day in a row the JMU women's golf team shot a 315 and finished in tenth place at the UNCG-Starmount Fall Classic. It was the worst finish of the year for the Dukes, who finished fifth twice to go along with winning the Lady Herd Fall Classic in early September.
Leading the way for Madison was freshman Laura Mesa (Manizales, Columbia/Colegio Granadino) who finished tied for 21st after tying her career best round with a 74 on Tuesday. Mesa shot a 76 on Monday to finish the tournament with a 150.
JMU used four freshman in the tournament including Kelly Lynch (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) who tied for 42nd (77-80--157), Catrin Gunnarsson (Bankeryd, Sweden/Sanda Gymnasiet) who took 51st (81-79--160), and Kristen Harrington (West Lafayette, Ind./Harrison) who made her Dukes debut, finishing in 67th (88-90--178).
The Dukes fifth participant was sophomore Mary Chamberlain (Dennis, Mass./Suffield Academy) who tied for 56th with rounds of 81-82--163.
East Carolina (284-299--583) won the event finishing eight strokes ahead of host-school UNC-Greensboro (299-292--591). The top-five is rounded out by Elon (304-296--600), Florida International (300-300--600) and Miami (306-295--601).
ECU's Emelie Lind won the tournament with a 1-under-par 141. She was followed by Ann Marie Dalton of High Point (73-69--142), Sandra Angulo of Campbell (72-71--143), Jessica Steward of Miami
