WILLIAMSBURG, Va., March 28, 2007 ? The James Madison University men's golf team placed eighth out of 21 schools in the two-round William & Mary Invitational, played on two courses at the Kingsmill Resort.
Round one was played on the par 71, 6,432 yard Plantation Course at the Kingsmill Resort and round two was played on the par 71, 6,831 yard Kingsmill River Course which is also the site of the Michelob ULTRA Open on the LPGA Tour.
Campbell University finished first with a 279-296-575 and had two of the top three individual finishers. Frederic Sundberg finished first with a 67-70-137 and his teammate Matt Evans shot a 70-72-142 to finish tied for third.
St. John's placed second after they carded a 287-291-578 and were followed by Detroit Mercy in third with a 294-295-589.
JMU finished with a 298-306-604 to finish eighth. The Dukes were fifth overall in par five scoring with a minus three for the tournament and sixth in par four scoring.
The Dukes were lead by Fielding Brewbaker (Salem, Va./Salem) who shot a 75-72-147 to finish tied for 14th out of 111 competitors.
Michael Chupka (Midlothian, Va./Clover Hill) carded a 75-76-151 while teammate Tim Driver (Harrisonburg, Va./Spotswood) shot a 73-80-153.
Joe Scheffres (Rockville, Md./Landon Prep) scored a 75-81-156 and recorded an eagle in the tournament to go with his seven birdies.
Reagan McNeer (Midlothian, Va./James River) shot an 81-78-159 as the last official scorer for the Dukes.
Jhonny Montano (Cochabamba, Columbia/Cochabamba Cooperative School) competed as an individual and carded an 80-74-154.
