CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., April 30, 2007 - The James Madison men's golf team placed ninth out of 10 schools at the University of Virginia Invitational over the weekend. The Dukes shot a 312-300-315--927 on the par-72, 6,879-yard course.
Virginia won the event with a 292-285-291--868 which was 24 strokes better than second place finisher UNC Greensboro who scored a 295-300-297--892. Virginia Commonwealth came in third with a 302-304-288-894.
Joe Scheffres (Rockville, Md./Landon Prep) led the Dukes with a tie for 17th in a field of 53 after carding a 74-75-78--227.
Tim Driver (Harrisonburg, Va./Spotswood) finished with a 76-76-77--229 while Michael Chupka (Midlothian, Va./Clover Hill) carded an 80-75-80--235.
Fielding Brewbaker (Salem, Va./Salem) shot an 82-74-83--239.
Jhonny Montano (Cochabamba, Bolivia/Cochabamba Cooperative School) was disqualified on Saturday for using two balls but carded an 80 on Sunday in round three.
Reagan McNeer (Midlothian, Va./James River) competed as an individual and scored a 79-75-82--236.
Drew Younts of UNC Greensboro won the event with a score of 68-69-77--214 followed by Lanto Griffin of VCU in second who carded a 73-72-71--216. Greg Carlin of Virginia finished in third with a 74-71-72--217.
