HARRISONBURG, Va., Sept. 21, 2007 -- Senior Annie Lowry (Butler, Pa./Butler) scored a goal and had two assists to lead James Madison (6-1-0) to a 3-0 win over American (6-3-0) in women's soccer Friday evening at the JMU Soccer Complex.
It was a fitting birthday present for JMU head coach Dave Lombardo, who was celebrating his birthday Friday.
Lowry gave the Dukes a 1-0 halftime lead when she scored in the 28th minute.
Freshman Teresa Rynier (Leola, Pa./Conestoga Valley) sent a ball from near the right touchline to Lowry, who dribbled to the edge of the box and hit a shot from 19 yards to the right side of the goal.
The second goal came in the 67th minute. Lowry started the play with a corner kick, sending the ball along the end line to freshman Cate Tisinger (Clifton, Va./Centreville). Tisinger passed the ball into the box to sophomore Morven Ross (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill), who scored her first career goal on a three-yard shot.
Tisinger scored the third goal on a header off a cross from Lowry with 5:59 remaining.
It was redshirt sophomore Caitlin Walko (Vienna, Va./Langley) who started the play with a pass to the middle of the field to Tisinger. Tisinger then passed the ball to the left to Lowry, who dribbled toward the touchline and sent the ball back into the box to Tisinger for the goal.
The Eagles' best scoring opportunity came with about 15 minutes left in the game, when JMU redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Missy Reimert (Lenhartsville, Pa./Ku
