JMU TAKES FIFTH IN SEA TRAILS INTERCOLLEGIATE

SUNSET BEACH, N.C., Sept. 23, 2007 -- The JMU women's golf team shot a final round 304 and finished in fifth place in this weekends Sea Trails Intercollegiate. The Dukes scored rounds of 312, 305 and 304 on their way to finishing 17 strokes behind tournament champion Elon.
Madison was led by sophomore Mary Chamberlain (Dennis, Mass./Suffield Academy) and freshman Kelly Lynch (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) who each shot three round totals of 229. Their rounds put them in a tie for ninth place in the tournament, 14 strokes behind Andrea Downer of Murray State, who won the tournament.
JMU's three other participants each finished in the top-40 overall. Freshmen Laura Mesa (Manizales, Columbia/Colegio Granadino) finished tied for 16th with a three-round total of 232, while teammate Catrin Gunnarsson (Bankeryd, Sweden/Sanda Gymnasiet) tied for 22nd with a 234. The final finisher for the Dukes was senior Ashley Mantha (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) who tied for 40th with a 241.
