BETHLEHEM, Pa., Sept. 28, 2007 -- James Madison seniors Dena Spickard (Marion, Va./Marion) and Michelle Beardmore (Front Royal, Va./Warren County) were the top finishers for the Dukes' cross country team at Lehigh's Paul Short Run Friday afternoon.
Spickard placed 80th and Beardmore 86th in the field of more than 300 runners. Spickard completed the 6,000-meter race in a time of 22 minutes, 17 seconds, while Beardmore was clocked in 22:24.
Close behind were sophomore Alison Parris (Saint Leonard, Md./Patuxent), who placed 101st in 22:32, and junior Aspen Foster (Virginia Beach, Va./Frank W. Cox), who finished 107th in 22:35.
Other runners for JMU included freshman Mariah Hagadone (Mount Solon, Va./Buffalo Gap), 167th in 23:19; sophomore Brittany Lussier (Stafford, Va./North Stafford), 18th in 23:29; and junior Christy Ward (Midlothian, Va./James River), 186th in 23:29.
In the team competition JMU placed 17th among 47 teams. The field included three teams ranked in the national Top 30, including meet champion Princeton (ranked #13), fourth-place Wisconsin (#5) and eighth-place Tennessee (#28).
Junior Sally Kipyego of Texas Tech was the meet champion with a meet-record time of 19:59.
