TALLAHASSEE, Fla., Mar. 12, 2009 ? The James Madison men's golf team finished fourth out of six teams in the Florida State Spring Break Invitational held Thursday in Tallahassee, Fla. The one-day, two-round tournament featured teams from Florida States, Troy, Florida Gulf Coast, Gardner-Webb and Florida A&M.
The Dukes carded rounds of 296 and 285 for a 5-over-par 582. They finished 32 strokes behind tournament champion Florida State.
Leading the way for JMU was sophomore Matt Neely (Ashland, Va./Patrick Henry) with a 3-under par 141, after shooting 71 and 70 on Thursday. Senior Tim Driver (Harrisonburg, Va./Spotswood) tied for 18th carding a 75-72?147.
Freshman Mike Smith (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./Nease) finished in 20th (77-71?148), followed by freshman Chad Mozingo (Culpeper, Va./Culpeper County) in a tie for 21st (74-79?149), and freshman Chris Wellde (Ellicot City, Md./Centennial) in 23rd (72-78?150).
Madison returns to the course Monday, Mar. 23 in Williamsburg, Va. at the First Market Bank Intercollegiate.
