PINE MOUNTAIN, Ga., April 19, 2009 ? The James Madison men's golf team fired a final-round 304 to finish in a tie for fourth in the Colonial Athletic Association Championships held at the Calloway Resort in Pine Mountain, Ga.
The Dukes carded rounds of 293 and 294 in the first two rounds to finish with an 891. They finished even with Old Dominion and UNC Wilmington in the 11-team field.
Leading the way for Madison was senior Tim Driver (Harrisonburg, Va./Spotswood), who was named to the All-Tournament Team after finishing tied for third. The second-team All-CAA selection finished at 2-over-par with a 76-70-72=218.
Fellow senior Fielding Brewbaker (Salem, Va./Salem) also finished in the top 10 after tying for seventh. Brewbaker carded a 71-75-75=221 to record his fifth top-10 finish of the year.
Freshman Jack Bonifant (Silver Spring, Md./Sherwood) finished in 21st after shooting a 73-77-77=227. Sophomore Michael Meisenzahl (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) tied for 27th (73-74-83=230) while sophomore Matt Neely (Ashland, Va./Patrick Henry) rounded out the five-man team in a tie for 32nd.
Georgia State's Allen John was named the Most Outstanding Player after winning the tournament with a 70-65-76=211. Old Dominion's Eric Onesi (74-71-68=213) and Virginia Commonwealth's Mark Jargren (71-76-71=218) and Lanto Griffin (69-73-76=218) all joined Driver on the All-Tournament Team.
VCU (290-301-286=877) won the team championship on a one-hole playoff over Georgia State (285-294-298=877). William & Mary (300-291-293=884) finished third while the Dukes, Monarchs and Seahawks tied for fourth.
