WILMINGTON, N.C., March 1, 2010 - The James Madison men's golf team carded rounds of 307 and 308 on Monday to sit in 10th place at the 2010 Seahawk Intercollegiate after two rounds. The Dukes are one stroke behind Davidson for ninth and four strokes out of eighth in the 12-team event at the Country Club of Landfall.
Sophomore Mike Smith (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./Nease) and junior Michael Meisenzahl (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) both finished the day in the tournament's top 20. Smith carded a 75-72=147 to sit in 15th, while Meisenzahl is tied for 18th after shooting a 73-76=149.
Sophomore Chris Wellde (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) is tied for 49th after putting up a 80-79=159, while sophomore Chad Mozingo (Culpeper, Va./Culpeper County) is one stroke back in a tie for 52nd. Junior Jack Bonifant (Silver Spring, Md./Sherwood) rounds out JMU's five-man team in a tie for 59th at 83-82=165.
Augusta State's Patrick Reed and East Carolina's Jake Colley lead the field of 66 after each carded a 139 on Monday. Reed's teammate Henrik Norlander (70-71=141) is tied with Josh Brock of UNC Wilmington (70-71=141) in a tie for third, while Carter Newman (69-74=143) of Augusta State is in fifth.
With three golfers in the top five and five in the top 18, Augusta State leads the team competition at 7-under-par. South Carolina (588) is in second, followed by UNC Wilmington (589) in third and Georgia State (591) in fourth. East Carolina rounds out the top five with a 592.
The Seahawk Intercollegiate will conclude on Tuesday with a shotgun start, beginning at 8 a.m.
