The Dukes began the final round in 11th place and finished their day at 916, just one stroke behind ninth-place Elon and two behind eighth-place Central Arkansas. Miami delivered the low round of the tournament, shooting a 7-over 295 on the last 18 holes to claim the team championship at 24-over 888 (296-297-295). The Hurricanes finished nine strokes ahead of second-place finisher Campbell at 33-over 897 (299-301-297) and 13 strokes ahead of Florida International, who ended the tournament in third place at 37-over 901 (298-303-300).
Senior Mary Chamberlain (Dennis, Mass./Suffield Academy) was JMU's top finisher, matching her second-round effort with a six-over 78 to finish the tournament tied for 19th at 9-over 225 (69-78-78), her first top-20 placing of the year. Freshman Ginger Mak (North Point, Hong Kong/The International School of Macao) continued her consistent play in Kiawah Island by shooting a 78 to finish tied for 33rd at 12-over 228 (76-74-78). Senior Laura Mesa (Manizales, Columbia/Colegio Granadino) had the Dukes' best final round with a 2-over 74 that landed her in a tie for 39th at 14-over 230 (75-81-74). Junior Nicole Sakamoto (Honolulu, Hawaii/Kalani) rebounded from Monday's round with a 3-over 75 that took her into a tie for 76th at 20-over 236 (76-85-75), while the final JMU competitor, junior Valentina Sanmiguel (Bogota, Colombia/Gimasio La Montana) tied for 104th after shooting a 12-over 84 and finishing at 26-over 242 (76-82-84).
The Dukes will be back on the course March 6-7, 2011 at the SunTrust Gator Women's Golf Invitational in Gainesville, Fla.
