Three Dukes Advance through Day Two of ITA Atlantic Regional

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The James Madison women's tennis team went 3-3 on day two of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Atlantic Regional at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center in Blacksburg, Virginia on Saturday. Two Dukes advance to the main singles round-of-32, and one duo of Dukes advances to the doubles main draw second half quarterfinals.
"I am really happy with how the team played today," Head Coach James Brycesaid. "Even though we went 3-3 overall, they were prepared and met our team expectations. We have another chance to improve tomorrow and are hoping for another productive day."
Freshman Kimmy Herrock(Tarpon Springs, Fla./East Lake) won her first singles match of the tournament on Saturday, downing Old Dominion's Marijana Novakovic in straight sets (6-2, 6-4). She advances to the main singles draw round-of-32 on Sunday, facing VCU's Olga Barscheheuskaya at 10:30 a.m.
Senior Taylor Pinchoff(Sylvan Lake, Mich./West Bloomfield) opened her singles play with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Mariely Hassey (Liberty) in the main singles draw round-of-64. She faces Olivia Thaler (W&M) on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. in the round-of-32.
Pinchoff teamed up with sophomore Alex Huie(The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands) in doubles action, battling with Richmond's Anna Abadias Morales and Melissa Kandinata for a tiebreaker win 8-7(4) in the main draw second half. The tandem advanced to tomorrow's second half quarterfinals, where they will take on Maryland's Kristina Hovsepyan and Ekaterina Tour at 9 a.m.
Huie dropped her round-of-64 singles match 6-3, 6-4 to Sansitha Nandakumar (VT). Sophomore Rachel Nelson(Big Prairie, Ohio/West Holmes) fell 6-4, 6-2 to Teodora Radosavljevic (GWU) and freshman Dylan Owens(Olney, Md./Sherwood) lost to Kai Broomfield (Marshall) 6-2, 6-3 in the same round.
ITA Atlantic Regional action continues on Sunday, Oct. 18 with doubles kicking off the day for JMU at 9 a.m.
