BLACKSBURG, Va. – The James Madison women's tennis team finished its run through the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Atlantic Regional tournament on Sunday at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center in Blacksburg, Virginia.
"This was a very successful ITA Regional for us," Head Coach James Bryce. "It was the best showing for Taylor in four years of college, and she showed great fight in her first match today. In addition, Dylan battled out a great three-set win of her own. If the team continues to improve on this track, we will have a very productive spring."
Senior Taylor Pinchoff (Sylvan Lake, Mich./West Bloomfield) advanced to the singles main draw round-of-16 for the first time in her career after mounting a comeback against William and Mary's Olivia Thaler in the round-of-32. After falling 6-1 in set one, Pinchoff battled back for a 6-4 win in set two to tie the match at 1-1. She earned the match victory in tiebreaker fashion at 7-6(1).
In the round-of-16, Pinchoff dropped a two-set decision (6-2, 6-3) to Old Dominion's Borislava Botusharova.
Pinchoff also teamed up with sophomore Alex Huie (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands) to compete in the doubles main draw second half quarterfinals (overall round-of-16). The tandem fell 8-2 to Maryland's Kristina Hovsepyan and Ekaterina Tour.
Freshman Kimmy Herrock (Tarpon Springs, Fla./East Lake) lost in straight sets (6-1, 6-4) to Olga Barscheheuskaya (VCU) in the singles main draw round-of-32.
In a consolation match, freshman Dylan Owens (Olney, Md./Sherwood) earned a three-set victory over Amanda Wickman (Pitt). She came back from a one-set deficit (6-2) to win sets two and three (6-3, 7-6(5))for the match victory.
Sophomore Rachel Nelson (Big Prairie, Ohio/West Holmes) dropped a hard-fought, three-set match (3-6, 7-5, 10-7) to Monet Willis (Temple) in the consolation singles.
The Dukes wrap up the fall tournament slate in two weeks when they travel to Morgantown, West Virginia, for the WVU Fall Invite. Match play at the three-day event begins on Friday, Oct. 31.
