PHILADELPHIA, Pa., April 25, 2014 - Track & field freshman Ebony Owusu-Sampah (Woodbridge, Va./C.D. Hylton) entered the James Madison record book with her performance in the triple jump Friday at the 120th Penn Relays.
Owusu-Sampah finished 18th out of 31 in the event with a leap of 11.74 meters, That distance is the ninth best all-time at JMU and the best for the Dukes this season. Her previous personal record was 11.67 meters at the Virginia Cup.
JMU's 4x200 relay team just missed moving into the program's record books. Junior Destiny Simmons (Staunton, Va./Robert E. Lee) and freshmen Annie Johnson (Medford, N.J./Shawnee), Abby Duncan (Keedsville, Md./Boonsboro) and Deana Forbes (Danville, Va./George Washington) took 35th out of 55 teams. They crossed the line in 1:40.66 for the team's fastest time this season. It missed cracking the program's top-10 list by just over three-tenths of a second.
JMU returns to action on May 2-3 as it hosts the Colonial Athletic Association Championships at University Park.
