ResultsPhoto GalleryPost-Race InterviewMASSANETTA SPRINGS, Va. – The James Madison cross country team hosted the second annual Alumni Meet Saturday morning at Massanetta Springs, bringing quite a few former Dukes out to race against the 2014 squad.
Junior
Kathleen Stewart (Holland, Pa./Council Rock South) covered the 4,000-meter course in 15:56.7 to win the race by just over seven seconds over sophomore
Tessa Mundell (Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin), who completed the course in 16:03.8.
The top alumnae finisher was Holly (Frederickson) DeWitt, who crossed the finish line in 12th place in 17:42.9. DeWitt ran cross country for JMU from 2006-09. Other notable finishers from the alumni group were Annie Reiner, Stacey Nobles and Jessica Zozos who all finished the race in 18:13.6 to tie for 14th place.
Prior to the start of the Alumni race, there was a children's race, which members of the JMU cross country team ran the 800-meter distance with the youth. Duke Dog, as well as student-athletes from the track and field team were on hand to meet the participants at the finish line.
The Dukes return to action next Saturday, Sept. 13 when they host the JMU Invitational at New Market Battlefield.
