PISCATAWAY, N.J. – James Madison women's golf finished third in the Rutgers Invitational out of 11 teams after the third round Saturday afternoon.
The Dukes shot a total of 937 strokes (311-309-317) in the 54 holes, trailing first-place Delaware by 14 strokes.
Sophomore
Maddisen Cox (72-78-77) led the way for the Dukes in fifth place out of 58 golfers, carding a 5-over par in the final round for a three-round total of 227 strokes in the two-day tournament.
Senior
Kelsey Solan (76-77-84) and freshman
Carley Cox (80-80-77) tied for 21st with each carding a 237. Solan shot a 12-over par 84 and Cox shot a 5-over par in the final 18-holes.
Freshman
Jordan McKelvin shot a 8-over-par 80 in the final round, tying for 27th with 241 strokes. Sophomore
Gabrielle Weiss rounded out the team scoring for the Dukes with an 11-over-par 83 in the final round to tie for 33rd with 244.
Playing as an individual,
Laura Gomez-Ruiz shot a season-best 231 to tie for seventh. Gomez-Ruiz shot a 6-over par 78 in the third round.
Quoting Sarah Sargent "We are a young team and I know with time and hard work we will be pretty good. We will get back to work for the next week and see what we can do in Florida. Congrats on good showings by Maddy and Laura, who fought hard and played very well through the wind and cold weather. This should give them both a lot of confidence heading into the FIU tournament."
