RICHMOND, Va. – The James Madison men's golf team captured the VCU Shootout title, topping 12 other schools on Tuesday afternoon. This marks the team's first tournament win of the 2015-16 season.
All five JMU golfers finished in the top 20 in the 83-player field with freshman
Alex Henderson tying for seventh to lead the Dukes. Henderson closed out his second collegiate appearance with a 1-over par 73 to finish at 214 total strokes (68-73-73) in the three rounds.
Junior
Ryan Cole earned his 10th career top-10 finish, tying for 10th after shooting a 4-over par 76 on 215 total strokes (71-68-76). Junior
Poom Pattaropong saved his best for the final round, shooting a 3-under par 69 to record 216 total strokes (70-77-69) to tie for 13th.
Sophomore
Jack Floydd and redshirt freshman
Shota Ozaki rounded out the scoring for the Dukes, tying for 18th. Floydd (69-76-74) and Ozaki (73-72-74) shot a 2-over par 74 in round three to tally 219 strokes a piece.
The Dukes clinched the trophy in the final 18 holes of the tournament, taking a nine-stroke lead over second place finisher, East Carolina.
