PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. – Junior
Ryan Cole finished second overall and the James Madison men's golf team rode early momentum to climb to a second-place finish (280-293-268 – 841) to complete the Golfweek Program Challenge on Tuesday.
Combined with the women's program, Madison finished sixth out of 18 institutions at 32-over par.
In the men's final round, the Dukes climbed four spots from their second-round standing to finish 23-under par and tied with Mercer. Jacksonville finished atop the leaderboards for the tournament shooting 30-under par.
Riding the momentum of his August appearance in the U.S. Amateur, Cole (65-72-67 – 204) carded his second round of the event under par to finish second at 12-under par among the field of 90 golfers, rising from his fifth-place standing after the second round. It was his third career finish in the top two spots at a tournament.
Junior
Poom Pattaropong (72-70-68 – 210) tied for 12th, finishing with his best round of the tournament on the final day. Sophomore
Jack Floydd (71-75-67 – 213) and freshman
Alex Henderson (72-76-66 – 214) tied for 19th and 23rd, respectively. Redshirt freshman
Shota Ozaki (74-78-69 – 221) tied for 53rd to round out the JMU leaderboards.

Jeff Forbes said. "Our plan was to play well early to put some pressure on the top teams and the guys did just that. Ryan's second place finish was impressive and we are looking forward to playing at VCU."
