TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Four out of five James Madison women's golfers competing in the 2016 Florida State Match-Up posted tournament-low scores in Sunday's third and final round at the Par 72 Don Veller Seminole Golf Course.
Sophomore
Maddisen Cox (+11, T-29th) surged up the individual leaderboards after carding a 2-over 74 on Sunday to show continual improvement after carding a 78 in the first round and a 75 in the second.
Also improving on the day was freshman
Jordan McKelvin (+22, T-60th), who also shot a 74 on the day to shave 7 strokes off her first round score of 81 and nine strokes off of her second round score 83.
As a unit, the Dukes finished the tournament in 12th place while host school Florida State took the top spot. Texas A&M's Maddie Szeryk held on to first place on the individual leaderboards from beginning to end, finishing with a five-under par. Only three golfers managed to stay under par by the end of the tournament.
Rounding out the contingent of Dukes in competition this weekend were sophomore
Laura Gomez-Ruiz (+22, T-60th), senior
Kelsey Solan (+24, 64th) and freshman
Carley Cox (+35, 68th).
JMU returns to the course on Monday, Feb. 7 when they travel back to the sunshine state for the North Florida Collegiate in Jacksonville.
