TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - With both the second and third rounds being played on Saturday, the James Madison men's golf team finished third at the Florida State-hosted 2016 Seminole Intercollegiate.
Posting a 282-290-282 - 854 to finish at 10-under par at the Par 72, 7,172-yard Southwood Golf Club, JMU slotted in third just behind the fourth-ranked Florida State Seminoles (-12) and the third-ranked Auburn Tigers (-14) who took home the tournament title.
The 14-team, 78-golfer field featured 10 teams in the nation's top 100, four of which entered the weekend ranked in the top 50.
The tournament schedule was altered to play 36 holes on Saturday with the threat of bad weather  on Sunday barreling in on Tallahassee. Junior
Ryan Cole (-4, T-7th) and sophomore
Matt Cowgill (-4, T-7th) led the Dukes after carding a 73 and 69 repspectively in the second round before posting a 70 and 74 respectively in the third and final round. Cowgill has now placed in the top-10 in two of the three tournament competed in since arriving at JMU.
On a day in which he sunk nine birdies, sophomore
Jack Floydd (-3, T-11th) set a new single-round career low in the third round, carding a 6-under par 66 to rise 35 spots on the individual leaderboard during the day's final 18 holes.
Rounding out the team scores for the Dukes were junior
Poom Pattaropong (+1, T-30th) and freshman
Alex Henderson (+11, T-64th).Â
The top-3 team finish is Madison's sixth in seven tournament played so far during the 2015-16 campaign. The Dukes return to the course on Sunday, March 20 for the UNCW-hosted Seahawk Invitational at Landfall Golf Club in Wilmington, N.C.
