JMU Concludes CAA Regular Season with 5-2 Win over Drexel

HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison women's tennis defeated Drexel 5-2 on Saturday afternoon in the Dukes' final Colonial Athletic Association match of the regular season.
The Dukes finish at 5-1 in league play and take a 16-5 overall record into tomorrow's season finale. The Dragons take a 13-6 overall record, including a 2-4 mark against CAA foes, into next week's conference tournament.
Trailing 2-1, JMU notched three straight singles wins to clinch match point. The run began with a three-set victory (6-2, 4-6, 6-4) from junior Rebecca Harris at No. 6 singles over Fiorella Coria, her sixth straight singles win. Freshman Emma Petersen followed with a two-set win (7-6(4), 6-3), her eighth consecutive, over Ryshena Providence at No. 4 singles to give JMU its first lead since doubles play.
Junior Timea Guibe closed the door on the Dragons with a comeback win at No. 1 doubles, overcoming a 7-5 first set loss to Honami Yazawa for 6-0, 6-2 wins in sets two and three to secure the win.
Sophomore Kimmy Herrock rounded out the scoring with a come-from-behind three-set win of her own at No. 3 singles. After a 7-5 loss in set one, she sank Kendra Bunch 6-4 in set two and 6-3 in set three for the point.
All four singles scorers posted 2-0 records on the day as the Dukes swept doubles play. Petersen opened the day alongside fellow freshman Bella Heidenreich with a 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles before Harris teamed with freshman Abby Amos for the 6-3 victory at No. 1 to clinch the opening point. Guibe and Herrock completed the JMU doubles sweep with a 6-2 decision at No. 3, remaining undefeated as a duo this spring (8-0).
JMU hosts VCU at Hillside Courts in the regular-season finale on Sunday, April 17 at 1 p.m.
