HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison women's tennis closed the regular season with a 4-3 loss to in-state rival VCU on Sunday afternoon at Hillside Courts. The Dukes finish the regular season at 16-6 with a 5-1 mark in Colonial Athletic Association action, and the Rams improve to 9-9 overall.
The Rams pushed out to a 3-0 lead before the Dukes got on the board, but VCU quickly clinched the match at No. 1. JMU closed the day with back-to-back wins.
Sophomore Kimmy Herrock went 2-0 on the day, beginning with a 6-3 victory alongside junior Timea Guibe at No. 2 doubles. She also closed the afternoon with a three-set tiebreak win (7-6(6), 2-6, 10-6) over Magda Aubets at No. 3 singles.
Junior Rebecca Harris and sophomore Dylan Owenseach notched victories for the Dukes in singles action. Harris defeated Sofia Segerfors in straight 6-3 sets at No. 6 doubles while Owens took down Yana Morar 6-3, 7-6(3) at No. 5.
VCU took a 1-0 lead out of doubles, with the point decided at the No. 3 position. Freshmen Emma Petersen and Bella Heidenreich held a 5-3 advantage over Magda Aubets and Yana Morar, but the Rams won the final four games to clinch the 7-5 victory.
With the regular season complete, the Dukes now turn their attention to the CAA Championship this week. Hosted by Elon, the tournament begins with the first round on Thursday, April 21, between the two lowest seeds. The tournament begins for the other seven teams with the quarterfinals on Friday.

The Dukes are headed to the CAA Tournament in Elon, N.C., this week, hosted by Elon at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center. Seeding has yet to be determined, but the No. 8 and No. 9 seeds will open the event on Thursday, April 21, before the full quarterfinals begin on Friday, April 22.
