BLACKSBURG, Va. – For the second time in two days, the James Madison track & field team broke a school record at the Virginia Tech Challenge inside Rector Field House on Saturday.
The 4x400 relay team of junior
Tyrah Burrow, sophomore
Meredith Willis, senior
Annie Johnson and freshman
Alexys Taylor took first place with a time of 3:42.25. The mark was over five seconds faster than the previous school record of 3:47.69 (Hall/Bryant/Battle/Chitty – 2003).
At the UCS Invitational in Winston-Salem, N.C., senior
Carol Strock ran the third-fastest mile in JMU history. Her mark of 4:45.46 was good for a seventh-place finish out of 52 runners.
Four other Dukes set personal records across three events in Blacksburg. Junior
Charlie Bell (58.58 seconds) and freshman
Sahna Sabbakhan (1:00.58) both set PRs in the 400-meter dash, finishing sixth and 10th, respectively. Sophomore
Elise Rasmussen placed fifth in the 1,000-meter run with a PR of 3:01.05 and junior
Nicole Goff placed eighth in the mile run with a personal best of 5:07.65.
