TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The James Madison men's golf team fired its best round since its second tournament of the 2016-17 season on Sunday, using the final round to vault itself to a fourth-place finish at the Seminole Intercollegiate, hosted by Florida State at the par-72, 7,172-yard Southwood Golf Course.

The Dukes put all four scorers at par or better for the second time in three rounds at the 14-team tournament, firing an 8-under 280, tied for the lowest final round of any team, to post their fifth top-five finish of the season with a final score of 17-under 847.

Penn State took home the team championship, shooting 31-under 833 across three rounds to hold off No. 25 Georgia Tech and No. 30 Florida State, who tied for second at 28-under 836.

Senior
Ryan Cole missed his season low by just a stroke to lead the Dukes, racking up five birdies in a bogey-free round of 5-under 67 that moved him up to a tie for fifth at 9-under 207. The performance marked his fourth top-five finish in seven tournaments this season.

Sophomore
Alex Henderson continued his solid tournament, posting a 2-under 70 that saw him eagle the par-5, 541-yard 16th hole to climb into a tie for 18th at 5-under 211, while junior
Jack Floydd bounced back in his final round, using a 1-under 71 to climb 11 spots into a tie for 34th ( 1, 217).

Freshman
Walker Cress closed out the JMU scoring with an even-par 72, tying him with Floydd in 34th at 1-over 217, while junior
Matt Cowgill tallied three birdies en route to a 1-over 73, putting him in a tie for 63rd at 7-over 223.

Playing as an individual, sophomore
Shota Ozaki closed the tournament tied for 54th at 5-over 221 after a final round of 3-over 75.

Across three rounds, no team played Southwood Golf Course's shortest holes better than JMU, as the Dukes shot a combined 4-over on the four par 3's for the week. That tally tied for the best of any team at the Seminole Intercollegiate, with senior
Ryan Cole leading the way at 2-under, tied for the lowest combined score of any competitor.
