GREENVILLE, S.C. - The James Madison men's golf team wrapped up play at the Furman Intercollegiate, hosted at the par-72, 7004-yard Furman University Golf Course, finishing its week in a tie for ninth among 21 teams.
The Dukes closed their weekend with a round of 4-over 292, finishing tied for ninth at 2-over 866, just three strokes behind Virginia Tech and Gardner-Webb, who were tied for seventh.
Sophomore
Shota Ozaki closed his weekend with a 2-under 70, his lowest round of the spring, climbing 17 spots into a tie for 45th in the 128-player field. Ozaki birdied his opening hole, then added three more across a consistent round en route to his best performance since the final round of the Camden Collegiate Invite on Oct. 23.
Senior
Ryan Cole balanced two birdies and two bogeys on his way to an even-par 72, moving him up into a tie for 55th, while junior
Matt Cowgill closed his weekend with a 2-over 74, bettering his 54-hole personal best by five strokes on his way to a tie for 14th at 2-under 214.
Sophomore
Alex Henderson carded a 4-over 76 to close the JMU scoring and finish tied for 34th at 1-over 217, while freshman
Walker Cress finished in sole possession of 101st at 11-over 227. Playing as an individual, senior
Poom Pattaropong finished level with Henderson after a final-day 2-over 74.
Clemson took home the team title, besting the 21-team field by 14 strokes with a final score of 29-under 835 after closing its tournament with a 9-under 279. The Tigers' Carson Young captured medalist honors, carding a 5-under 67 on the final day to take home a one-stroke win at 11-under 205.
