BLACKSBURG, Va. - Strong efforts from the JMU women's tennis underclassmen propelled JMU past Wisconsin, 4-3, to extend the season-opening win-streak to eight.
Freshman Liz Norman and sophomore Diane Flament opened the day with a resounding 6-4 victory at No. 1 doubles, while sophomore Jona Roka and senior Dylan Owens sealed the doubles point at the No. 3 position with a 6-3 victory of their own.
Norman earned match point at No. 2 singles with a two-set victory (7-6(2), 6-4). Her two victories today give her a 3-1 record for the weekend.
QUOTING HEAD COACH JAMES BRYCE
"The team did a great job staying relaxed and composed against a very fired-up Wisconsin team. Once we started playing the ball instead of focusing on the hostile atmosphere, we settled into a good rhythm. This is another step in the right direction for the program, and we look forward to starting CAA play next week."
