HARRISONBURG, Va. – The James Madison men's tennis team hosted VCU on Wednesday afternoon, falling 6-1 at the East Campus Tennis Courts.

The Dukes fell to 3-3 on the season, while the Rams improved to 6-2. JMU notched one doubles win and one singles win in the loss.

VCU started the match with a win at #2 doubles, as Inigo Torre Martin and Rayane Stable took down junior

William Karpinski, 6-1. JMU bounced back with a victory at #3, as senior

Holden Koons defeated Tomas Balazi and Daniel Khin, 6-3. The doubles point came down to the match on court one. The tandem of junior

Josh Raymundo fell to Charles Bertimon and Lleyton Cronje, 6-4.

Koons earned the lone singles victory for the Dukes, making it his third-straight singles win during the dual season. Koons defeated Martin 6-4, 7-6 (4).

"Never like losing, obviously, but the guys competed hard and played well. If we could have squeaked the doubles out, the momentum would have been a lot different. Hats off to VCU, they are a very good team and are going to win their conference. They are one of the tougher teams we play, but we told the guy, hopefully we can keep the level we played at. We need to continue this against the rest of the competition and see more favorable results."
