ORLANDO, Fla. – James Madison men's tennis was unable to secure a win in any match against a strong Belmont team, which took a 7-0 decision from the Dukes on Wednesday afternoon at the USTA National Campus in Orlando.
The Bears improved to 11-3 on the year while the Dukes fell to 7-5.
Belmont took an early 1-0 lead with wins at No. 2 doubles and No. 1 doubles. The team of Felix Rauch and Taisei Miyamoto downed senior
Tate Steinour and freshman
Holden Koons, 6-2, before Henrik Inno and Marko Ilic took a 6-4 decision from junior
Alvaro Arce and senior
Josh Raymundo.
In singles play, Belmont claimed all six matches, which included a pair in a third-set, super tiebreaker.
Senior
Damon Roberts played a tight match on court four before falling to Miyamoto 7-5, 7-5. Both sophomore
William Karpinski and junior
Gonzalo Adis went to three sets before ultimately falling.
Karpinski forced a third set against Jake Briggs before dropping a 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (6) decision. Adis won the opening set but later fell in a long super tiebreaker to Vincent Sterkens, 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (12).
