ORLANDO, Fla. – James Madison men's tennis bounced back with a 4-0 victory against Appalachian State on Thursday afternoon at the USTA National Campus.
The Dukes improved to 8-5 on the year, while the Mountaineers dropped to 3-11. JMU won a pair of doubles matches and three singles matches to earn the team win.
Freshman
Holden Koons and senior
Tate Steinour downed Milo Bargeron and Matvey Radionov by a score of 6-3 on court two, and junior
Gonzalo Adis and sophomore
William Karpinski earned a 6-2 win on court three versus Zion Heaven and Alessio Azzalini to give the Dukes the 1-0 lead after doubles play.
Koons and senior
Damon Roberts captured straight-set wins at No. 2 singles and No. 4 singles to extend JMU's lead to 3-0 on App State. Koons rolled to a 6-4, 6-2 victory against Aleksandar Petrovic, and Roberts cruised past Heaven by scores of 6-2, 6-2.
Adis clinched the match for JMU with his big come-from-behind win at No. 6 singles, as he beat Pavkovich 1-6, 6-1, 6-2. With the match in hand, the other three singles matches were halted.
