WALLACE, N.C. - The James Madison men's golf team kept its hold on third place on Tuesday afternoon as the Dukes closed out play at the Seahawk Invitational, hosted by UNCW at the par-72, 7,027-yard River Landing Golf Club.

Redshirt junior
Ignacio Montero led the way for the Dukes on the final day, carding a 73 (+1) on the final day to close out a consistent 72-71-73 run across the week and finish tied or 13th among 66 players.

As a team, the Dukes posted a final-round 299, finishing a stroke ahead of fourth-place Lipscomb and Radford on a tight 10-team leaderboard.

Senior
Walker Cress and redshirt sophomore
Ignacio De Pineda also picked up top-25 finishes on the week - Cress tied for 18th at 218 (+2) after a Tuesday 76 (+4), while De Pineda was just one stroke behind in a tie for 22nd at 219 (73-71-75).

Sophomore
George Heath closed out the JMU scoring on the day with a 75 (+3) and tied for 41st, while freshman
Neal Shipley tied for 36th at 223 (+7) and junior
Patrick Hineline tied for 52nd at 234.

"This was a tough closing day for us - we feel like we could have had a lot better showing on a tougher scoring day. We just have to be mentally tougher from the start of the day and we know we have things to work on before our next tournament."
