QUICK HITS
- James Madison men's basketball returns to the Atlantic Union Bank Center for a Saturday evening battle with Gallaudet.
- The Dukes fought current No. 3 Virginia in a tight battle in Charlottesville on Tuesday, eventually falling in a 55-50 defeat. After trailing the Cavaliers for most of the contest, the Dukes tied the game with 7:51 to play and pushed to within two in the final minute. A late jumper in the final minute by Virginia's Ryan Dunn proved to be a key basket.
- In what was ultimately a defensive struggle on Tuesday, JMU was led offensively by Takal Molson, who put up 20 points, including 18 in the second half, representing 60.0% of the Dukes' scoring in the final 20 minutes.
- Molson leads the Dukes with 13.4 points per game, scoring 18 or more four different times this season already.
- JMU got out on the glass against Virginia, outrebounding the Hoos, 41-33. Six different players had at least five rebounds during the game, the first time six different Dukes have grabbed five or more boards since Nov. 10, 2021 against Carlow.Graduate student Mezie Offurum was one of the six to get at least five boards against U.Va. and is JMU's leading rebounder with 56 through 10 games, grabbing at least five in eight games this season.
- The Dukes sit in the top 10 offensively in a pair of categories - tied for fifth in scoring offense (89.0) and ninth in field goal percentage (50.6%). JMU has scored at least 95 points six times this season and shot at least .600 from the field three times.
- A trio of Dukes in Justin Amadi (.730), Offurum (.641) and Xavier Brown (.640) are all shooting above 60% with at least 25 field goal attempts this season.
- On defense, the Dukes rank 11th in steals per game (10.8) and 14th in turnovers forced per game (18.9). JMU opponents have committed 20 or more turnovers in five different games in 2022-23, with JMU grabbing at least 13 steals in each instance.
- JMU holds a big advantage at the free throw line, making 60 more attempts than its opponents through 10 games and out-shooting opponents 72.1% to 63.6% at the stripe.
- The Dukes sit at 43rd in the NCAA NET rankings and 72nd in KenPom, the highest mark in the Sun Belt in both rankings and the highest KenPom ranking for JMU in the 22-year history of the metric.
