BOCA RATON, Fla. - The James Madison women's golf team opened its spring season in strong fashion on Tuesday afternoon, as the Dukes posted back-to-back rounds of par or better to climb into ninth place at the FAU Paradise Invitational, hosted at the par-72, 6,204-yard Osprey Point Golf Club.

The Dukes bounced back from a slow start to close with rounds of 288 (E) and 284 (-4), moving them up the 15-team leaderboard with a final score of 868 (+4), the second-lowest 54-total in program history.

JMU's final round of 284 (-4) marked the second-lowest single round ever shot by a JMU team, while the Dukes' second round (288) is now tied for the ninth-lowest.

Redshirt sophomore
Kendall Turner led the way for the Dukes, finishing tied for 26th among 78 competitors with a steady 70-74-72 week that put her at even-par 216 for the tournament. Redshirt junior
Kate Owens finished just two shots behind in a tie for 35th, closing strong with scores of 76-73-69 (+2).

Freshman
Kayleigh Reinke posted her best collegiate performance yet, shooting 219 (+3) with rounds of 75-73-71 to tie for 40th, while sophomore
Amelia Williams tied for 47th at 221 (79-68-74). Williams' bogey-free second round of 68 (-4) is tied for the second-lowest round in program history, just one shot behind her own school record.

Tatum Walsh closed out the JMU scoring in a tie for 67th at 228 (+12).

NOTES FROM THE COURSE
- The Dukes' performance marks just the third time in program history that the team has posted two rounds of par or better in the same event. All three instances have come in the last two seasons.
- JMU now has seven team rounds of par or better this season - prior to 2021-22, the Dukes had recorded four such rounds in program history.
- Turner's even-par 54-hole score is the fourth time in her career that she has finished a tournament at par or better.
- Owens and Williams both played the par-3 holes at Osprey Point GC in 1-under for the week, tied for the second-best mark in the field.

The Dukes will be back in action in just a week, when they travel to Spanish Trail Country Club in Las Vegas, Nev. to take part in The Show at Spanish Trail. The event is scheduled for Feb. 14-15.
