CHARLOTTE, N.C. – James Madison women's tennis dropped a tough match to #53 Charlotte on Saturday afternoon at the Lifetime Fitness in Charlotte, N.C.
The Dukes fell to 7-9, while the 49ers improved to 12-4.
Doubles play began with a win for Charlotte on courts three and one. After a 6-2 win for the hosts on court three, the team of
Daniela Voloh and
Michelle Los Arcos put up a valiant effort against the #24-ranked duo of Lucia Quiterio and Margaux Maquet on court one, but came up short in a 6-3 decision.
In singles play, Charlotte won matches on courts six, four and one in straight sets to clinch the victory.
The 49ers grabbed a 2-0 lead with a 6-1, 6-4 victory on court six by Lucie Petruzelova over
Amanda Nord. The lead stretched to three on court four when Quiterio downed Voloh, 6-1, 7-5.
The match clincher was on court one, as Maquet took a 6-3, 6-3 win from
Natalia Nikolopoulou.
In an unfinished match,
Hope Moulin won a first-set tiebreaker against Emma Wilkins on court five. She led by the score of 7-6 (2), 0-1, when the match concluded.
