MOREHEAD, Ky. – Three different Dukes scored as James Madison women's soccer earned a 4-0 victory on Sunday afternoon at Jayne Stadium to begin a four-game road trip.

The Dukes move to 1-0-1, while the Eagles fall to 1-1.

Sophomore Sophia Verrecchia led the offensive charge, scoring off both shot attempts for her first two collegiate goals. Redshirt freshman Rachel Bump recorded a shutout in her first collegiate start, saving the only two shots the Eagles put on goal.

How It Happened

The Dukes got the offensive charge going early, getting a corner kick in the first minute and then firing off the first three shots of the match,
Morehead State countered the attack with three consecutive corner kicks and a pair of shots in the 20^th and 24^th minute.
Redshirt junior Suwaibatu Mohammed broke the scoreless tie, scoring her first career goal in the 30^th minute to give JMU a 1-0 lead.
JMU outshot Morehead State 6-3 in the first half.
In the 62^nd minute, sophomore Amanda Attanasi gave the Dukes a 2-0 lead. She scored for the first time this season off of a pass from redshirt sophomore Lexi Vanderlinden.
Verrecchia joined in on the scoring party in the 74^th minute, finding the back of the net after one touch to make it a 3-0 game. Attanasi and Vanderlinden were credited with assists on the goal, marking the second time Vanderlinden has assisted twice in a match in her career.
Verrecchia found the back of the net again in the 80^th minute, as Mohammed was fouled inside the 18-foot box to set up Verrecchia with a penalty kick shot.

Game Notes

The Dukes scored four goals in a game for the first time since their second match of the 2021 season against American.
JMU has posted back-to-back shutouts to open up a campaign for the first time since 2007.
The Dukes outshot the Eagles 11-4, including holding Morehead State to only one shot in the second half.

"Two games, two shutouts makes a coaching staff happy. Devin Zvosec with the team defending and Rob Donnenwirth with the goalkeepers deserve a ton of credit for the shutouts. On the flip side, it was great to score four goals and to be very dangerous today."
