BETHLEHEM, Pa. – James Madison saw eight runners produce personal-best times in their respective 6K races Friday afternoon on the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course.
The Dukes collected 796 points in the Women's College Gold 6K race to finish 28th out of 46 teams. North Carolina placed first with 63 points, followed by Georgetown (67), and Providence (176).
How It Happened
- JMU kicked off the day with three runners in the Open Women's 6K. Sophomore Riley Schindel was the first Duke to cross the finish line with a personal-best time of 22:52.6 for 57th.
- Junior Miranda Stanhope led the way for James Madison in the Women's College Gold 6K with a personal-record effort of 20:12.4 (35th), followed by sophomore Sofia Terenziani (21:18.4 – 160th) and senior Laura Webb (21:29.3 – 194th).
- Freshmen Gabriella Garcia (21:37.2 – 224th) and Faithe Ketchum (21:49.9 – 256th) rounded out the scoring.
Meet Notes
- Stanhope paced James Madison for the third time this season. Additionally, the junior has been the top finisher for the Dukes in every meet she's competed in dating back to the Spring 2021 season.
- After two miles, three JMU scorers improved their placement. Webb made the biggest jump, moving up 95 spots.
- Garcia made up the most ground after the first mile, going from 371st to 224th, improving 147 places. Moreover, the freshman recorded a faster split in her second mile (5:49.7) than her first mile (5:51.7), the only JMU runner in the race to do so.
- The spread between scorers was 1:37.5Â while the average 6K time was 21:17.7.
- In last year's race, only two James Madison runners finished in under 22 minutes compared to six in 2022.
Quoting Head Coach Rebekah Ricksecker
"I am very pleased with our performance today," said Ricksecker. "Our primary goal was to be competitive with regionally ranked teams, and we accomplished that goal. We had several athletes record significant PRs, with eight total running a personal-best 6K time. I'm very proud of our efforts today and excited for the rest of the season!"
