GREENVILLE, S.C. – The James Madison men's golf team closed out its fall portion of the schedule with a ninth-place finish at the Furman Intercollegiate Sunday afternoon.
Senior
Daniel Cheng led the Dukes with a 23
rd-place finish, paced by his three-under 68 in the first round. The senior wrapped up his 54 holes with subsequent scores of 74 (+3) and 72 (E) on the par-71, 7,131-yard layout at the Furman Golf Club.
Václav Tichý finished one stroke behind Cheng, totaling a three-round score of 215 (+2) and tying for 28th in the 87-player field. He improved his scores every round (73-72-70) and moved up six spots on Sunday. In 14 rounds this fall, Tichý recorded a stroke average of 70.50.
Garrett Kuhla bounced back from a 76 in his first round and posted rounds of 73 and 71 to finish in a tie for 46th at 220 (+7). Teammate
Tommy McKenzie finished one stroke behind Kuhla at 221 with rounds of 71-75-75.
Owen Kose carded two solid rounds of 72 (+1) and 73 (+2) after a first-round 77 to finish tied for 58th to round out the JMU contingent in The Palmetto State.
Wake Forest's Scotty Kennon took home the individual title with a 202 (-9), while No. 27 Texas A&M edged hosts Furman for the team title. JMU finished ninth with a final team score of 865 (+13).
