NEW ORLEANS – James Madison volleyball outside hitter
Brenya Reid repeated as Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday morning.
In a pair of JMU wins over defending Sun Belt Champions Coastal Carolina, Reid powered the Dukes with 51 total kills (5.67 per set), including a career-high 28 on Oct. 19. Her 51 kills was 11 more than the second-closest player in the Sun Belt and the fourth-highest total among Division I players from Oct. 14-20. She also registered 25 digs which gave the junior a pair of double-doubles.Â
Â
Reid opened the weekend with 23 kills and 13 digs against the Chanticleers on Friday, as the Dukes edged past Coastal in five. On Saturday, she finished with 28 kills and 12 digs as JMU powered past the Chanticleers in four. The 28 kills marked the most by any JMU player in a four-set match since
Natalie Abel racked up 24 against FIU on Sept. 15, 2012.

The native of Georgetown, Del., becomes the first Dukes player to receive consecutive weekly honors since
Sophie Davis collected back-to-back Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Defensive Player of the Week awards on Sept. 13, 2021, and Sept. 20, 2021. Reid currently leads JMU in kills (189) and kills per set (4.20) and has the six highest kill totals by a Dukes player this season.Â

The Dukes return to action as they travel to Statesboro, Ga., for a pair of matches against Georgia Southern on Oct. 25-26. Both matches will be streamed on ESPN+.
