DANBURY, Conn. - Freshman forward
Ginny Lackey of the James Madison women's soccer team has been named the Eastern College Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year and earned a spot on the All-ECAC Second Team, as the ECAC announced its Division I women's soccer honors Monday morning.
Lackey is the second Duke to take home a major award from the ECAC and the first since
Alexandra Blom grabbed Defensive Player of the Year in 2022.
The nod comes following a stellar premier season for Lackey in the purple and gold, already full of accolades. She started 16 matches, recording back-to-back braces in just her second and third collegiate matches that began a program record-tying nine consecutive matches in which she scored a goal. The goal streak coincided with her JMU record 11 consecutive matches of scoring a point.
After tallying 12 goals and ten assists for 34 points on the season, Lackey became the first player in JMU history and second in the Sun Belt since 2016 to win both Player and Freshman of the Year honors in the same season, while grabbing First Team All-Sun Belt and All-Tournament Team accolades. In a single season at JMU, she ranks tied for fifth in points, tied for eighth in assists and tied for ninth in goals. She became the eighth Duke to record double-digit assists in a season and recorded the 13th 30-point season in program history. Lackey is also the first Duke to record at least ten goals and assists in a season since Julie Reule logged 10 assists and 13 goals in 1994.
