HARRISONBURG, Va. -Â Freshman forward
Ginny Lackey of the James Madison women's soccer team has been named to the First Team All-American list for freshmen by TopDrawerSoccer, as the outlet announced its Division I women's soccer postseason awards Wednesday morning.
Lackey is the second Duke in program history to earn a spot on one of the Freshmen teams, joining Cate Tisinger who made First Team in 2007.
The laurel from TopDrawerSoccer will be added to a laundry list full of accolades, including Sun Belt Player and Freshman of the Year and All-Tournament Team, United Soccer Coaches Third Team All-America and First Team All-Southeast Region, ECAC Rookie of the Year, and MAC Hermann Trophy Award Semifinalist.
The Bolton, Manchester native had a stellar premier season in the purple and gold. Starting in 16 matches, Lackey recorded back-to-back braces in just her second and third collegiate matches that began a program record-tying nine consecutive matches in which she scored a goal. The goal streak coincided with her JMU record 11 consecutive matches of scoring a point.
After tallying 12 goals and ten assists for 34 points on the season, Lackey became the first player in JMU history and second in the Sun Belt since 2016 to win both Player and Freshman of the Year honors in the same season, while grabbing First Team All-Sun Belt and All-Tournament Team accolades. In a single season at JMU, she ranks tied for fifth in points, tied for eighth in assists and tied for ninth in goals. She became the eighth Duke to record double-digit assists in a season and recorded the 13th 30-point season in program history. Lackey is also the first Duke to record at least ten goals and assists in a season since Julie Reule logged 10 assists and 13 goals in 1994.
The Dukes concluded a historic season this fall, winning both the Sun Belt regular season and tournament championship, and finished with a record of 12-4-5.
