GREENVILLE, N.C. – Kendall Turner and Amelia Williams placed inside the top 10 to lead the James Madison women's golf team to a third-place showing at the Ironwood Invitational Tuesday afternoon.
Turner placed second with three consistent rounds of 73-73-71 to finish at one-over 217 on the par-72, 6,371-yard layout at the Ironwood Country Club. The second-place finish is her fifth top-five placing of the season and 19th top-10 finish of her career. She has finished inside the top 15 in all nine stroke play tournaments for JMU in 2023-24.
Williams also picked up her fourth top-10 finish of the season with a 54-hole tally of 220 (+4), placing sixth out of 90 players. The senior carded rounds of 74-71-75 in the two rounds.
As a team, JMU finished third overall out of 15 teams with an overall score of 896 (300-297-299). The third-place finish marked the fourth consecutive tournament the Dukes have placed inside the top three and fourth overall in 2023-24. Tournament hosts East Carolina took home the team title, as the Pirates used a final-round 291 (+3) to surpass Delaware for the top spot.
Kayleigh Reinke picked up a tie for 28th, recording a three-round tally of 229 (+12). The junior finished with consecutive rounds of 76-75-78. Sophomore Maria Atwood finished in a tie for 46th place, managing a 232 (+15).
Freshman Julia Zigrossi rounded out the JMU contingent in Greenville with a tie for 51st place while carding rounds of 79-78-76.
