MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Daniel Cheng registered a tie for fourth place to lead James Madison men's golf at the rain-shortened Golfweek/AGT Intercollegiate on Wednesday at the True Blue Course and its par-72, 6,940-yard layout.Â
After teams were able to complete the first two rounds of play, rain canceled Wednesday's third and final round after roughly 14 holes.
Cheng's top-five finish came after two sub-par rounds of 69 (-3) and two-under 70 for a total score of 139 (-5). It is his second top-five placing of the season, as the junior has also finished inside the top 25 in six of nine stroke-play tournaments for the Dukes this season.
JMU opened the action in Myrtle Beach with a 293 (+5) on Monday before the Dukes improved by two strokes (291, +3) on Tuesday. In a deep field of 19 teams, the Dukes closed out the tournament in 13th. Â
Owen Kose tied for 38th with rounds of 74-73 (147, +3), while Nick Schlickenrieder managed a tie for 72nd with scores of one-over 73 and a 78 (+6) on Tuesday.Â
Václav Tichý and Alexandre D'Aurelle de Paladines rounded out the Dukes' contingent in Myrtle Beach, as both finished in a tie for 78th with two-round scores of 152 (+8). Tichý managed a first-round 79 (+7) before closing with a 73 (+1), while de Paladines shot a 77 (+5) and a 75 (+3).Â
