JMU Moves Past Marshall, 4-1

HARRISONBURG, Va. – Four different Dukes found the back of the net as JMU Women's Soccer propelled past Marshall, 4-1, in Sun Belt action at Sentara Park on Thursday night.
The Dukes improve to 6-3-4 (2-1-2 SBC) as Marshall shifts to 6-4-1 (2-2-1 SBC). Netting goals for James Madison were redshirt sophomore Aleigha Arndt, redshirt sophomore Jeanette Fieldsend, freshman Olivia Del Toro, and redshirt junior Brooke Potter. Fieldsend grabbed a pair of assists, with Arndt, Ginny Lackey, and Avery White joining her in the assist column with one each. Bailey Fisher tallied the Thundering Herd's lone score of the night.
Sophomore Lili White made the start in between the posts. She played all 90 minutes and corralled five saves, tying a previous career high.

The Dukes will hit the road again, traveling to Boone to take on App State in Sun Belt play on Sunday, October 5th. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. and will be available to stream on ESPN+.

How it Happened
- Fieldsend located Arndt at the top of the box, who soared a shot high into the net to put JMU on the board in the ninth minute, 1-0.
- On the heels of a feed from Arndt, Fieldsend managed to shoot through the Marshall defense to extend JMU's advantage, 2-0, in the 12th minute.
- The Thundering Herd had their first chance in the 18th minute, an attempt from Fernanda Dantas that was saved by L. White.
- Marshall threatened the JMU backline in the 37th minute, unleashing a pair of shots and earning two corners, but was unable to capitalize.
- After receiving a pass from Fieldsend, Lackey crossed to Del Toro, who finished with a chip over the Marshall keeper to increase the Dukes' lead to 3-0 in the 64th minute.
- After being awarded a free kick, Fernanda Dantas provided a set piece for Bailey Fisher to head in and put Marshall in the scoring column, 3-1, in the 78th minute of play.
- JMU converted on their final shot of the match, an attempt from Potter following a feed from A.White in the 88th minute to move the James Madison lead to 4-1.
- The Dukes lead the all-time series against Marshall, 5-1-1.
- Thursday's victory marks the second time JMU has defeated Marshall and scored four goals.
- Fieldsend's four points are a career high.
- Del Toro's goal was the first of her collegiate career.
