Dukes End Weekend with 4-0 Loss at ACC Foe Wake Forest

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest controlled doubles play and utilized three straight-set singles wins to earn a 4-0 women's tennis win against James Madison on Sunday afternoon at the Wake Forest Tennis Center.
The Demon Deacons (7-2) conceded just five total games across the three doubles courts to take the early 1-0 lead, after producing a 6-1 win on court two and 6-2 victory on court one to clinch the point.
In singles play, Wake won the opening set on all six courts, but JMU (0-7) was pushing in the second set on a pair of courts, as Mia Saveljic was within a game of forcing a third set against Kady Tannenbaum on court four (4-6, 5-1) and Ines Oliveira held a slim lead on #73 Krystal Blanch in the second on court two (2-6, 4-3).
The Deacs doubled the lead to 2-0 on court six, as Brianna Baldi downed Hope Moulin, 6-1, 6-4. Moulin had trailed 5-1 before pushing it to 5-4 in the second set. Sankavi Gownder upended Corinna Rietmann, 6-3, 6-2, on court five to move the lead to 3-0.
Wake Forest clinched the match on court three, where Whitley Pate defeated Sophie Williams, 6-2, 6-0. One additional match went unfinished over on court one, as Novana Carton led Daria Munteanu, 7-5, 2-1.
JMU is back on the court next weekend for a pair of matches in Lynchburg, Va. The Dukes face host Liberty on Friday, Feb. 14 at 3 p.m., followed by a neutral match with Michigan State on Sunday, Feb. 15 at 1 p.m.
