SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – The James Madison men's golf team wrapped up play at the Desert Mountain Intercollegiate with a 15th-place finish on Sunday evening.
In deep field of 96 players at the par-72, 7,107-yard Desert Mountain Golf Club,
Václav Tichý paced the Dukes with a tie for 56th, rebounding with scores of 72 (E) and 74 (+2) after an opening round 81. Junior
Daniel Cheng finished one stroke behind Tichý, placing in a tie for 58th with scores of 72-75-81.
As a team, the Dukes finished 15th in the 17-team field with scores of 307-299-306. No. 27 Mississippi State took home the team title with a three-round aggregate of 853 (-11).
Tommy McKenzie (77-76-78) and
Alex Seibal (78-76-78) finished 66th and tied for 67th, respectively. McKenzie finished with a 54-hole score of 231 (+15) while Seibal was one stroke behind him at 232 (+16).
Owen Kose rounded out the JMU contingent with a score of 238 (+22), concluding with a final-round 76 (+4) after posting scores of 80 (+8) and 82 (+10).
Garrett Kuhla and
René Bergendi competed in the Next Man Up Individual Event in Raleigh, N.C. and the Lonnie Poole Golf Club. Kuhla finished eighth with rounds of 76 (+4) and 75 (+3), while Bergendi tied for 13th in the 16-player field with scores of 79 and 75.
