BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – James Madison junior
Václav Tichý continued his stellar junior campaign with a tie for 11th to lead the men's golf team at the Mountaineer Invitational on Tuesday afternoon.
Tichý's 11
th-place finish came in a field of 100 players at the par-72, 7,308-yard Pete Dye Golf Club. The native of Prague, Czech Republic opened with an even-par 72 in Monday's first round before carding rounds of 76 (+4) and 75 to finish at 223 (+7) and ahead of multiple nationally ranked players.
In 29 rounds of play this season, Tichy's stroke average of 71.44 would be the third-lowest in program history.
With wind driving Tuesday's course average over seven shots over par, senior
Daniel Cheng rose 12 spots on the leader board with a 76 (+4) to finish at 230 (+14) overall through 54 holes. He opened the tournament with a 3-over 75 and 79 (+7) on Monday.
Owen Kose turned in his second-best placing of the 2024-25 season, tying for 39th at 232 (+16), producing three steady rounds of 77-78-77. Junior
Garrett Kuhla (79-76-79) tied for 48th with a 54-hole aggregate of 234 (+18), while
Alex Seibal rounded out the JMU contingent with a tie for 94th.
No. 4 Oklahoma State took home the team and individual medalist honors, finishing at 864 (E). No. 52 Eric Lee finished at 210 (-6) as the only player to finish under par for the tournament.
The Dukes will return to action at the Sun Belt Championship, set for April 21-24 at the Annandale Golf Club in Madison, Miss.
