HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison track & field saw
Holly Mpassy (400m) and
Jordyn Henderson (100H) qualify for the finals in their respective events on day two of the Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championship at Sentara Park on Friday.
Mpassy paced all competitors in the 400-meter dash at 53.86 – just shy of her school-record time of 53.79 set earlier this season at UCF's Black and Gold Invitational. Henderson produced a 13.51 (+2.6) clip in the 100-meter hurdles for second in the first heat and third overall behind Amanda Kinloch of Coastal Carolina (1st – 13.28) and Georgia Southern's Leonaya Knox (2nd – 13.44).
After eight events scored, Texas State now leads with 60 points, followed by South Alabama (52), Arkansas State (50), Louisiana (39) and App State (22). JMU sits in 12th with six points and 13 events still to be contested.
How It Happened
- Izzy Greene finished tenth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a career-best effort of 11:12.10. Teammate Kristin Giordano clocked in with a personal best of 11:24.36 for 14th.
- Elsewhere on the track, Alayna Gifford rounded out the top 10 in the 800-meter prelims with a time of 2:15.14.
- In the shot put, Ryann Bennett finished atop the first flight at 12.56m (41-2.5) and placed 11th overall. Meanwhile, Hayden Wilkerson recorded a personal-best toss of 11.93m (39-1.75) for 15th.
- Alayna Gifford rounded out the top 10 in the 800-meter prelims with a time of 2:15.14.
