DELAND, Fla. – Despite capturing the doubles point, James Madison men's tennis wasn't able to keep the momentum in singles, as Stetson reeled off five straight singles wins to down the Dukes 5-2 on Sunday at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center.

Both teams now sit 8-4 on the spring season, as Stetson evened the all-time series at 1-1, with JMU winning the inaugural matchup 33 years ago in 1993.

JMU took a 1-0 lead by virtue of two doubles wins in tiebreak fashion and also produced a singles win on court six from
Gur Libal.

The Dukes snagged the early advantage with a pair of 7-6 victories in doubles play. After Stetson took court one by a 6-2 margin, the final two bouts would be contested in a tiebreak and be decided by two points in each.

Harrison Lee and
Francisco Sinopoli, teaming for the first time this spring, overcame James Lorenzetti and Xavier Sarda Marti 7-5 in the breaker. The duo of
Zach Fleishman and
Gur Libal teamed for their first triumph of the spring and needed overtime to upend Christian Kuehne and Santia Padilla Cote by a 9-7 score.

In singles play, Stetson took the top five courts, including four in straight sets to clinch the match.

Alexandre Verlaguet took down
Esteve Agusti (6-1, 6-2) on court one before Sarda Marti defeated
Ryan Morgan (6-1, 6-1) on court three. The lead stretched to 3-1 on court two, where Kuehne beat
Aurelien Schmitt (6-2, 6-4).

The Hatters secured the win on court five, as Lorenzetti clinched with a victory over Fleishman (6-2, 6-1).

Sinopoli took a set lead but fell to Mate Stanisavljevic in a super tiebreaker, dropping a heartbreaker 10-8. He fell by scores of 2-6, 6-2, 1-0 (8). In the final match, Libal extended his singles win streak to seven straight with a 7-5, 6-4 victory against Padilla Cote.

JMU is back in action on Tuesday, March 17 when it treks to Jacksonville to face North Florida in a 1 p.m. start.
