JMU Signs Hampton Transfer Daniel Johnson

HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison added another piece to its 2026-27 roster with the addition of Daniel "DJ" Johnson on Wednesday afternoon, Head Coach Preston Spradlin announced.

Johnson spent the first two seasons of his career at Hampton, where he played in 64 games and started 47. He has a career average of 8.8 points and 4.0 rebounds per game and will have two seasons of eligibility remaining.

"DJ is a high motor wing that can impact the game in a variety of ways," Spradlin said. "His length and athleticism on the defensive end will move the needle for our team, and his shot-making, slashing, and rebounding will prove to be great assets that impact the players around him. His positive personality and high energy will instantly elevate the guys in our locker room."

- Corralled a season-high 10 rebounds vs. North Carolina A&T (1/19), had 22 games with five or more rebounds.
