WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO VIRGINIA COMMONWEALTH 2-1

RICHMOND, Va., Sept. 24, 2005 - The Virginia Commonwealth University women's soccer team defeated Colonial Athletic Association rival James Madison (5-4-0, 0-1) 2-1 Saturday evening
he Rams improve to 2-3-3, 1-0 with the win and break their three-game streak of not scoring a goal.
Throughout the first period, the Dukes kept a one-goal lead on the Rams but the Rams kept the pressure on and sprung back, finding the net twice during the second period.
The first VCU goal came just three minutes into the second period when sophomore Shelly Lyle (Tampa, Fla./The Cambridge School) deflected the ball off a corner kick from senior midfielder Sandra Anger (Cuguen, France/Louis Bascan).
Less than nine minutes later, sophomore Leigh Anthony (Fairfax, Va./West Virginia) took a shot from ten yards out that would mark her first game-winning goal of the season.
Sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Hardison (Midlothian, Va./Clover Hill) helped the Rams keep the lead with her two saves.
 Last year in regular season play the roles were reversed as VCU fell to JMU 2-1.
